ABOUT US

Jay West Physical Therapy, Inc. is a patient-centered orthopedic and sports rehabilitation clinic dedicated to providing high-quality, one-on-one care. Our mission is to help patients recover from injuries, improve movement, and optimize performance through individualized treatment plans. We are a growing practice that values professional development, innovation, and exceptional patient care.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Jay West Physical Therapy, Inc. is seeking a Rehab Technician to support our clinic’s Physical Ability Testing (PAT) program and assist with general clinic operations. This role is primarily focused on learning and administering physical ability tests for our employer partners, accurately recording results, and submitting data through each employer’s designated testing portal. The remainder of the role supports day-to-day administrative and patient-coordination functions. This is an in-person, flexible part-time position based at our Oakland clinic, with scheduling coordinated between the employee and the clinic. Please note that PAT testing volume is driven by employer demand and is not guaranteed on a consistent basis, so hours will vary week to week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical Ability Testing & Data Management (75%)

  • Learn and perform all Physical Ability Testing (PAT) protocols administered at Jay West PT. We partner with multiple third-party administrators to provide a range of physical ability tests, generally ranging from 15 to 45 minutes in duration.

  • Administer tests accurately and consistently, following established protocols under the guidance of Joseph Westlake, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT.

  • Record test results onto the appropriate scoring sheets for each test.

  • Log and submit completed results into each employer’s individual testing portal.

  • Print required test forms and prepare any necessary copies ahead of each scheduled testing session.

  • Securely shred completed paperwork once results have been entered, per office protocol.

  • Keep testing equipment and the testing space organized and ready for use (all equipment is kept on-site; nothing needs to be brought from home).

  • Safely perform the physical demonstration components of testing, including lifting up to 60 lbs from floor to waist.

Administrative & Office Support (25%)

  • Assist with patient scheduling and appointment coordination as needed.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance when handling patient and testing information.

  • Assist with general administrative duties, including data entry, filing, and correspondence.

  • Support the owner and physical therapists with non-clinical tasks as needed.

  • Use Google Workspace and EMR systems to complete assigned tasks.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of office procedures as they relate to testing and administrative workflows.

  • Assist with opening or closing the office space as needed, depending on scheduled hours, including following all required security and lockout procedures (for example, when testing runs past the end of the clinic workday and the employee is the last one in the office).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Able to perform the essential physical functions of this role (see Physical Requirements below).

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when recording and submitting test data.

  • Comfortable using browser-based systems for data entry (a company computer or personal computer may be used).

  • Access to a smartphone capable of saving documents to Google Drive.

  • Professional, dependable, and able to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information.

Preferred:

  • Degree, current coursework, or equivalent experience in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.

  • Currently enrolled in a physical therapy or other clinical health field program (e.g., DPT, PTA).

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.

  • Prior experience in a healthcare, fitness, or physical testing environment.

WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

  • Hours: This is a flexible part-time position. Hours will generally run up to 10 per week, depending on clinic needs and the volume of scheduled testing, and may vary week to week. There is no fixed shift schedule — the employee will have flexibility to choose hours that work with their personal schedule, coordinated with and agreed upon by the clinic.

  • No-Show Pay: If a scheduled candidate fails to show for a testing appointment, the technician is still compensated for their time — including the time spent documenting the no-show — through the standard hourly wage.

  • Pay: $25.00/hour, plus $20.00 per completed physical ability test.

  • Reports To: Joseph Westlake, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT (Owner), unless another supervisor is appointed in the future.

  • Benefits: Accrued sick time per California labor law. Option to enroll in the clinic’s current retirement savings plan. No health insurance or paid time off at this time.

  • Equipment: All PAT testing equipment is located at the clinic — nothing needs to be brought from home. Employees will need access to a smartphone for saving documents to Google Drive, and a company-provided or personal computer for browser-based data entry (either is acceptable). Printer and paper-shredding access are available on-site for preparing test forms and securely disposing of completed paperwork.

  • Office Access: Depending on scheduling needs, this employee may or may not be issued a key or keycard for direct office access.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs from floor to waist as part of administering physical ability testing demonstrations. This is considered an essential function of the position.
